Landfill Heavy Equipment Operator

Vonco II Landfill is seeking a team oriented individual to work at our Landfill/Waste Management Facility in Becker, MN.  This is a full time NON-UNION position that offers, holiday & vacation pay along with a good benefit package.  Starting pay is based on Experience. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Operate landfill equipment as necessary; ie Dozer, excavator, loader, landfill compactor, skid steer.  Ability to perform general maintenance on landfill equipment.

  2. Assist landfill manager with specific facets of landfill operation.

  3. Screen loads for unacceptable waste and valuable recyclables.

  4. Direct landfill traffic to ensure that safe delivery of waste into the landfill.

  5. Bail cardboard, plastic and aluminum.

  6. Pick up windblown debris/litter generated from facility operations.

  7. Backup for scale attendant.

  8. Other project or duties as assigned by management.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  1. Must practice good communication skills or seamless workflow and safety throughout the day, and ability to communicate with external customers.

  2. High school diploma or GED. Three years of equipment seat time preferred in operating Heavy Equipment.  Considerable knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles.  Ability to drive and operate the equipment under varying working conditions, and working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.

  3. General knowledge of a computer is helpful but not required.

  4. Ability to define problems, or safety concerns and draw a valid conclusion.  Ability to stop work or develop new ways to work through obstacles.

  5. OSHA 10 and Frist Aid/CPR preferred but not required prior to employment and willingness to take classes needed.  Gain knowledge of applicable safety precautions.

  6. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and periodically perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions and terrain.  Will be exposed to noise levels, dust, odor and variable temperatures.

  7. Typical start time is 6:00 am, 8-10 hour workdays Monday – Friday with occasional weekends.  

  8. Must be able to pass a drug test for employment.
