This is a full-time safety position working with our Industrial Cleaning Group in the Saint Paul Park Refinery 459 3rd Street, Saint Paul, Park, MN 55071. This position is responsible for following and administering both the refinery and Veit's safety regulations. This is an hourly position with typically four 10 hour days, but during turnarounds 12 hour days and weekends are required. This position will be responsible for monitoring crews ranging from 40+ individuals depending on the time of year and turnarounds. Summary: Responsible for planning, implementing and supervising all project safety, accident and fire protection programs on all projects and work sites for the Company. Analyze needs and determine specifications for protective safety equipment, materials and gear. Directs surveillance inspections and controls hazardous working conditions or unsafe employee activities. Ensures required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted in accordance with established Company procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages safety compliance issues for our Industrial Cleaning division to maintain the health and safety of all field personnel.
Investigates all safety incidents, near misses, workers compensation issues and property damage.
Performs in-house training regarding site safety and safety related regulations.
Writes site-specific health and safety programs (HASP) plans, fall protection plans and job specific JSA’s.
Performs site safety audits on a regular basis. Assists field personnel in complying with OSHA, EPA, MDH, MPCA and other regulations.
Maintains monitoring instruments.
Conducts new hire safety orientations and on-boarding.
Proactively seeks new ways to improve overall safety performance and employee well-being in the field.
Manages and generates new policies and/or procedures related to safety.
Stays abreast of industry trends and regulations, maintains certifications and seeks continuous avenues for department growth and improvement.
Requirements & Qualifications:
Previous safety experience of 10 years of related field experience with 5 years dedicated to safety and a recognized safety certification, or 5 years field experience, 2 years dedicated to safety and a safety related four year degree or certification.
Advanced Safety Certificate(s) (OHST, CHST, CSP) preferred. Other certifications that must be obtained if don’t have. OSHA 30, 40 hour Hazwopper – 8 hour refresher, confined space entry and rescue trained, blood borne pathogens, hydro blasting safety trained, vacuum truck safety training, fire protection and extinguisher trained, benzene training, fall protection training, supplied air and respirator trained, aerial/scissor lift training, employee right to know/hazard communication.
Ability to define problems, collect and document data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of situations and events and respond accordingly. Ability to seek counsel, when needed, from appropriate resources.
Communicates effectively with field labor employees, management staff and clients to relay company safety requirements and expectations.
Ability to read, comprehend and act on simple instructions. Ability to calculate basic math, figures.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Occasionally lifts and/or moves more than 50 pounds. Often required to sit, stand, walk, bend knees, stretch arms, talk, see and hear.
Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crawl or lift. Should be able to climb stairs and scaffolding.
Occasionally exposed to minimal to high noise levels on job sites, but hearing protection is provided/required.
Required to work out in all-weather climates.
Must have a Valid Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test for employment.
Must have or the ability to get a Federal Background check TWIC Badge.
